Ocean’s Skin in the Whale Mall

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been exploring the Brisbane Festival. It’s incredible to have a world class arts festival in my home city, filled with music, theatre, dance, opera and circus. If you ever visit Brisbane, September is the perfect time of year.

The unique show I experienced today, Ocean’s Skin, was created by composer and musical director, John Babbage, and artistic director and choreographer, Heidi Duckler. They are renowned for innovative site-specific works in non-traditional spaces.

This particular piece mirrored their fascination with the sounds and life-forms of the heavens and seas.

The music and dancing flowed from haunting to frantic, imitating the endless personalities of the ocean. The contemporary dancers wore torn linen dresses in washed out tones that were frayed and dishevelled – almost as if they had been shipwrecked at sea and then drowned.

High Tea at the Hilton

This may sound peculiar, but it has been quite nippy lately for Australia! This afternoon, the weather turned around, and for the first time it felt like Spring – perfectly timed for my beautiful best friend’s bridal shower. I decided to have a little bit of fun with my outfit with some clashing prints.
